Interest Check

Welcome to the first interest check for COLLECTED!

We’re so excited to share what’s in store with you! (Pun intended.) Here are some quick links to get you started: FAQ, PREMISE, LOCATIONS. The TDM is tentatively set for June 12th, with Reserves opening on June 15th, and applications opening on June 19th. These dates are subject to change! But we’ll keep you updated via our game plurk, [plurk.com profile] collectedrpg.

In a nutshell, Collected is a game about survival, the post-apocalypse, mystery, and the supernatural. This is a horror game that will force characters to survive in an abandoned mall left behind in a world wrecked by environmental decay. There’ll be eerie happenings left and right that seem almost like they’re meant to make them suffer… especially now that their wounds mysteriously heal on their own. It’s up to the characters themselves to find out what’s the deal with this creepy mall, and whatever happened to all the people who used to come here.

Sound fun? Post a comment using the code below, and we can get this party going!!

name: Vee! (my handle, also known formerly as alex, which is my irl name ... either is fine!!)
contact: [plurk.com profile] lycanthropic / sharisper#0002 on Discord
who invited you: Sib!!

character/canon: Lady Harrowhark Nonagesimus, Reverend Daughter of the Ninth House — anyways, she's from The Locked Tomb trilogy by Tamsyn Muir, specifically pulling from the first book, Gideon the Ninth.
a little bit about them: I was sold on this series with the following phrase: lesbian necromancers in space! Harrowhark is the scion of a House well along its way into oblivion, facing a dwindling population and a bleak future outcome. She answers the call of the King Undying, the Necrolord Prime, to go to the House of the First to become a Lyctor — one of God's immortal Hands — in order to secure a future for her House without allowing it to become an annex to another. She's also got some other reasons, but let's just say that's the primary one.

Truth be told, Harrowhark is kind of a terrible, nasty, ambitious little shrew, but she's also wonderful? She has very high standards for herself and everyone around her, especially in a survival situation ... she is absolutely fraught with potential for negative CR, as she is impatient and acerbic, but she's also (slowly) getting to a place where she can place some small modicum of trust in others, so there's that!

As for powers: she's a necromancer, and she's specifically a prodigy with bones & skeletal constructs. 🦴
etc.: This place reminds me of the horror games I used to play in years and years ago, so I'm very excited!
(also: PLEASE read gideon the ninth, u can thank me later)

YELLS OVER HARROW and her perfection

I sat down with this book like two days ago and I'm 100 pages away from finishing. It's super griping and I love her, she'd be bomb in this setting.

i am SO happy someone here has read (or, rather, is reading) gideon... i have the biggest smile right now. you are in for a HELL OF A RIDE in those last 100 pages! you will also be just as desperate for harrow the ninth to come out as i am, haha

YES... ive been dying to rp her for a month or two now, but none of the games up at the time really seemed to fit. i'm enormously happy that this one has sprung up; it does seem perfect!!!!

Oh it's killing me already. I wasn't expecting to be so creeped out by it, but some actual chills are going on lmao. it's fantastic.

Yeah! She's the perfect kind of character to poke her nose into the thick of it. I don't know how these two would get on but, I think Trevor would be pretty horrified by her haha

i dont know if you're aware, but the first act of harrow is available for free in ebook format still, i'm pretty sure! it's at least a little something to tide us over until early august, haha... (':

i know what you mean, though. i wasn't expecting to get spooked either, but once it started to go all and then there were none, i was simultaneously freaked out AND totally addicted... it's such an awesome book and ive been trying to force as many people as i can to read it

being horrified by her is a perfectly normal response, trevor, it's fine 🙃

OOoo I will have to look.

I know!! I've been reading it as my bedtime wind down and that has not been working because I keep doing the "just ten more pages, okay end of chapter, okay we'll make it an even 60" LMAO

with these books i feel like i can barely get 1/3 of the way through the book before getting totally addicted and just cannonballing the rest... and LOL it is also so much not a "wind-down" book... i always get so amped when i read them. when i was reading the harrow excerpt, i couldn't do it before bedtime bc i would just be full of brainworms & then be unable to sleep

fine then shes got her eye on you too, jerk

HAHAHAHA........ i can only laugh because i've been there for months. there are photos of me right after i finished gideon, and i am lying limp on the floor, slowly leaking tears

hang in there... i have it on very good authority that the second book is extremely good (: just a few more months ...

HEHEHEEH... there's a lot you can infer from just the characters list at the beginning ... i just hope you're in for even more pain because HOO BOY the first act of harrow is ROUGH, AS ONE MIGHT EXPECT

gideon gives you the false impression that harrow had her shit together at literally any point, and then harrow the ninth comes along and lets you know, nah, she's just really good at pretending LOL

I just checked and iBooks does have the first act as a sample. I'M IN.

weeps for the daughter.... .. everyone was so badass in the end, I want to see Harrow's pov and get her hot take on it all. my hopes and dreams right there

what's SUPER fascinating about the second book is that we get harrow's pov but we kind of don't? all of her chapters are told in a mysterious second person format, which makes me laugh considering i know tamsyn is a latent homestuck ...

i can't believe she wrote all of gideon the ninth, just to have an excuse to write a book in second person.....................

but i think all of us will be super happy with harrow when it finally comes out!! or i hope so ... i want to have faith in tamsyn... please

arrives late w/ another character

[personal profile] windowsills 2020-06-13 07:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I BELIEVE IT.... i low key read a lot of her stuff when i was in the fandom that shall not be named lmao. I think she'll tie it up nicely considering the care she took with her fic.

ANYWAY, i was going to tag harrow with alex here. Just wanted to know if it's okay if she attacks her skeleton in a moment of fear? I'm more than okay with her retaliating. :')

LFKDSAGDKH i didn't but only because i've never been much of a fanfic-reader, oddly enough... but it was super funny to rec gideon the ninth to a bunch of my friends and then a few were like "oh my god I read so much of her homestuck fanfic" haha

that's just fine! harrow is from a point in the first book where she already knows how to use regenerating ash, anyway, so it probably won't be too much harm done

i love alex so (': it might be difficult for me to be mean to her but ... harrow,

[personal profile] windowsills 2020-06-13 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
HAAAA before i read it i saw a few people confused by the jokey nature and the weird clash in technology in the book and I was like... yeah that sounds about right

Yesss that's fine. I just thought it would be a spicy intro. Alex trying her best to be brave but backfires horribly criiies 😭

yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i feel like it's my duty on this planet to get as many people as possible to read this book... i'm sure you will love it! i fell for it super hard. the characters are awesome, the writing is lovely, the world-building and structure for the necromancy is so neat ... i really could spend too long singing its praises

but please let me know what you think when you do read it 👀

and yes same!!! she will be very disappointed at the lack of skeletal remains but /: she'll make due
